The author reviews the history of MDMA, describes several retrospective studies of the acute effects of MDMA in humans and discusses studies in non-human animals using neurotoxic regimes of MDMA. Medical case reports and risks are briefly addressed. The author seems to be unaware of large areas of MDMA research, including many studies of the acute effects of MDMA in humans and many neurofunctional and neurocognitive comparisons of ecstasy users and non-user controls.
