RE: MAPS: Aspiring psychedelic researcher looking for guidance
On Sun, 3 Mar 2002, Jon Frederick, Ph.D. suggested to race to the PhD or MD
finish as soon as possible.
There is a lot of truth in Jon's words, but it is also possible to create/find
a job first and then a serious study into a psychedelic direction. At least
that is what I hope for (my plan is to study medical chemistry next year - and
I am 35 years old now). Wasn't Shulgin in his thirties when he decided to use
his paycheck to return to school?
I write this because for some people it takes a long time before their
preferred object of study crystallizes out. I have spent too much energy in
getting a degree in a study (rural sociology) which was not suited for me. When
I look back it would have been a much better decision to make money first and
then pick out the psychedelic study which suits best.
Extra benefit is that you can read the textbooks for the first year before you
actually begin at the university. Perhaps it is even best to prepare for your
study with psychedelic experiences and dumb jobs first, so you have plenty of
time to hang around in libraries. Time schedules are so tight nowadays that it
is almost impossible to do that as soon you sign in at the university...
