AMT) is similar to MDMA, I think much of that is wishful thinking. In

have far more in common with LSD or psilocybin than with MDMA."
For what it's worth, I find AMT to be far more empathogenic and
similar to MDMA than I find it to be psychedelic and similar to LSD.
I realize I'm in the minority, but I assure you it's not "wishful
thinking" in my case, and I know several people who have also noted
AMT's empathogenic effects. Some of us who consider AMT an
empathogen might also feel it has interesting psychedelic effects
that accompany it, effects that might be compared to LSD certainly,
but those effects are usually in addition to empathogenic effects,
not instead of them.
I often find that absolute statements about drug effects ("no
tryptamines are similar to MDMA in any but the most superficial
ways") overlook the complexity of most drug experiences, the
variability of set/setting/expectation, and so on. The more
experience reports I read over the years, the more I become convinced
that while broad generalizations about substances are useful
introductions to thinking about them, it's very often possible to
then start finding an immensity of contradiction within the reports
about given substances. Certainly with AMT it seems far from
conclusive to me that it's safe to make any broad generalizations
about what it "is" or "isn't," and calling it "typical" seems
borderline absurd.
