MAPS: MPTP elaboration

To Forum readers:

Here is a message I received correcting a mistake I made in discussing MPTP.

"In the interest of complete accuracy, what you said about MPTP
is not strictly true. MPTP was an impurity in a batch of another
chemical. The chemical being attempted was a meperidine derivative, MPPP
which is 1-methyl-4-phenyl-4-propionoxypiperidine. The MPTP was a product
of a side reaction caused by reaction conditions that were too extreme in
one way or another. MPTP itself is not a drug, and MPPP is probably just
as safe a drug as meperidine." Dave Perlman: dump@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

It's great to know that the Forum contains enough people with enough knowledge
to ensure that most ideas discussed here can reach a significant level of
clarity and accuracy.
