I have had an idea that a good way to concentrate up the active ingredient
in dak smoke would be to have a series of water pipes, but filled with an
organic solvent such as ethanol or such like. You could burn the part
where the dak is kept, and have the smoke sparging through the train. To
avoid explosions, you would have flame arrestors at either end (plates with
small holes that cool the flame to below propagation temperature). This to
me seems a better way to get the active ingredient out of the hash. You
would then evaporate off the solvent to recover the oils. Just a thought.

Also, someone mentioned free radicals appearing in smoke and getting
antioxidants to scrub them out. The reactivity of free radicals is their
downfall. When cooled, as down to room temperature, it would have to be a
super stable free radical to remain a free radical. Those that exist in
flames are not so. Free radicals in flames are mainly OH, H, C2, and other
little ones like that. The danger is when they cool and combine to create
more carcinogenic compounds.

The most danger that comes from smoke, ie. the cancer causing compounds in
addition to some of those already mentioned, are the polyannulated
hydrocarbons, or PAHs. This are by FAR the most carcinogenic. I do not
know their solubility in water, but being composed just of carbon rings and
no other elements, I suspect they are incredibly volatile and insoluble in
polar solvents such as water. Let's hope there is no chlorine present in
your stuff or dioxins will form as well. They're even worse.

I always thought that water pipes cooled the smoke and removed the ash. I
really didn't expect them to do much else. When you combust, you generate
all those nasty chemicals. Far better to ingest, perhaps.

As for the polymer to selectively bind the harmful components...that sounds
like material for a separation science PhD.
