The mechanism may also be on the tryptophan to niacin pathway. The body
can convert tryptophan to B-3 (niacin) so if one is niacin saturated, more
tryptophan might go to serotonin (5-HT) production, which may be in a
state of tweekedness, to use the medical term, due to the LSD.
It would be interesting to compare naicin with naicinamide. Niacin in
doses above 50 mg or so can cause a warm tingly flush (histamine?)which
some think unpleasant - an effect absent with niacinamide. One wonders,
however if that flush might be part of the benefit, physically or
psychologically.
