MAPS: MAPS and the APA
To All:
On May 29, 1999 Andrew Sewell suggested that MAPS try to have a booth at the
APA
meeting. That is a good suggestion, especially since the APA itself is a bit
resistant to information about psychedelic research. Dr. Charles Grob and
associates suggested the following four presentations at the 1999 conference,
all of which were rejected by FDA.
Psychobiology of MDMA - Grob
Neurocognitive Performance of Long-Term Hallucinogen users - Halpern
Behavioral and Brain Imaging Studies of Hallucinogens in Humans - Vollenweider
Hallucinogens: Probes for Brain 5-HT2A Receptors - NIchols
Andrew also wondered if a "NIDA Infofax preceded the first known case report
of
Ecstasy-induced Parkinsonism?" There is a first case report of a patient's
development of Parkinsonism after the use of MDMA less than 10 times. The
link between the MDMA and the Parkinsonism is both speculative and
theoretically implausible.
