MAPS: Plasma MDMA Levels Nonlinear with Dose

Gentlepeople,

Ran into an interesting report on a paper,
(The Lancet, 353:503-504, 15-Feb-99);
unfortunately my source (Forensic Drug
Abuse Advisor) did not give title or authors.

It basically says increases in MDMA dose
cause much greater increases in peak
plasma levels. There were not many subjects,
but they were at least screened to make
sure none were "slow metabolizers".

Summary is best as a table:

Subjects Dose Cmax (peak plasma level)
        2 50 51
        8 75 126
        2 100 190
        8 125 229
        2 150 485
(Wish they had a couple more subjects at 150 mg...)

This could be an important factor in neurotoxicity
studies. Also, anybody using MDMA could try
to use the smallest dose that works for them,
perhaps taking 1/2 or 2/3 of a pill first, and only
boosting with the remainder if needed later.
