MAPS: Cannabis effects and breathhold duration
I'm looking for more information regarding research into how holding the
cannabis smoke in one's lungs influences the psychoactivity.
In Zimmer & Morgan's "Marijuana Myths, Marijuana Facts", I have found
three references (listed below). I have found the abstracts to the two
last listed studies.
My questions are:
1) Have more studies been done regarding this?
2) Can someone provide me with abstracts or summarizations from the
report I have not been able to find?
3) Can someone try to summarize the body of evidence? (From what I've
read, it seems that holding the smoke for just one second gives just as
much effect, but reduces the danger, in lowering absorption of CO.)
The references:
Agurell, S. and Leander, K., "Stability, Transfer and Absorption of
Cannabiniod Constituents of Cannabis (Hashish) Smoking", /Acta
Pharmaceutica Suecica/ 8: 391-402 (1971)
Zacny, J.P. and Chait, L.D., "Breathhold Duration and Response to
Marijuana Smoke", /Pharmacology Biochemistry and Behavior/ 33: 481-84
(1989)
Azorlosa[1], J. et al., "Marijuana Smoking: Effects of Varying Puff
Volumes and Breathhold Duration", /Journal of Pharmacology and
Experimental Therapeutics/ 272: 560-69 (1995)
[1] In "Marijuana Myths, Marijuana Facts", it said his name was
"Zorilosa".
