Re: MAPS: psychedelic fasciculations

MAPS is committed to using scientific techniques to investigate consciousness,
emotions, mysticism, and other difficult to research topics, including
discussions of subtle energies, psychic phenomenon, etc. However, the more
unusual the claim, the more rigorous the research needs to be.

That said, I seriously doubt that there is any physical or scientific
evidence for the following energetic point of view,

<< If one looks at the above mentioned psychedelic
drugs from an energetic point of view; one finds a drying syndrome which
radically affects the synovial fluid within the casement of the spine DRYING
IT OUT, causing the loss of space and energy therefore forcing the
"fasciculation's". (More predominantly with MDMA, AND LSD). >>

Animal studies in which very large doses of MDMA were given to rats and dogs
daily for 28 days in a row found nothing abnormal regarding the spine or
spinal fluid. Probably more than 60 MDMA users have gotten spinal taps in
the context of MDMA neurotoxicity research without the researchers noticing or
commenting on anything unusual going on regarding the spine or spinal fluid.
I'm not sure if this "drying out" would be detectable in the above studies,
but this drying out seems more like a hypothesis than a fact.
