Commentary by John Cole

"Just a quick recap on yesterday now that I've managed to calm down and get my bearings after a reasonable night's sleep. After doing interviews constantly from 7 am to 4 pm I'm glad that this doesn't happen every day.

"It would appear that the morning newspapers made a huge mistake when interpreting a wire report that was released on sunday. Only one paper (the Times) actually spoke to me the others chose to run with the story regardless. So I found myself in the ridiculous position of starting a live radio interview at 7 am and coming across the headline in The Guardian stating that we had said ecstasy was harmless. The interview naturally went at me very aggressively but I was able to fend her off by saying that ecstasy was dangerous and it killed people. However we came out ok and they changed their news story rapidly when it became obvious that the papers were wrong, it was a foretaste of the day to come.

"We had the entire British media camped on our doorstep with satellite trucks outside doing live link ups and so on. However, once the journos worked out that the papers had got it completely wrong the story started to die off. As the day wore on the story sank deeper into the running schedules until it eventually disappeared.

"However, I think we can be happy that the media actually chose to present the real story in exactly the light that we wanted them to. The most popular new programme, the 6 o'clock news on the BBC ran a very complimentary piece and I think that it may actually do more good than the article itself."
