Media > MDMA as a Medicine: A 3-Minute Visual History

By: Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC)

Hungry Beast

In this brilliant short cartoon, Australian television show Hungry Beast puts a comical—and accurate—spin on the history of MDMA.

“3,4-Methylenedioxymethamphetamine—thats MDMA, the drug known illicitly as ecstasy—was first created completely by accident in 1912. Its initial foray into the world of medicine was cut short when people started using it recreationally, leading to it being banned as part of the War on Drugs. But doctors continued to campaign to be able to use it in medical research, and recent developments have shown the drugs potential for use in conjunction with psychological counseling to treat posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), trauma, and anxiety.”
