The purpose of this conference series, including the Portland, Oregon forum, is to resurrect the knowledge base of therapeutic Cannabis in public, accredited venues that are directed to clinical application. No academic medical education concerning therapeutic Cannabis has been provided to any MD or RN in the United States since 1938. The "corporate knowledge" of the health care community on this subject is gone. These conferences bring replicated, science based research to clinicians, patients, the press and the public upon which individuals can make informed decisions about therapeutic Cannabis use.

    • The Prophets Conference New York City: Techniques of Discovery
      May 18-20, 2001
Cathedral of St. John the Divine, Synod Hall
      Bringing together...
Huston Smith, Stanislav Grof, Ralph Metzner, Gregg Braden, Gabrielle Roth, Riane Eisler, Michio Kaku, John Mack, Oriah Mountain Dreamer, Robert Anton Wilson, Ram Dass, and Russell Targ.

The Prophets Conference brings together today's most remarkable teachers and authors to explore and bridge science and spirituality. Our thematic variation for this New York City gathering is Techniques of Discovery - an investigation of the powerful and profound pre-existent place of deep transcendent and transformative commonality found through shamanic practices, spiritual paths, entheogens, religious trance, out-of-body experiences and other revolutionary and revelatory tools.

We will be looking at expanded states of consciousness and the uncommon knowledge and heightened awareness often obtained from them, and then look at the magnitude of the implications fostered by acknowledging them as true Gnosis. We will then explore their relevance to every area of life.

The conference will also envision a deeper sense of Destiny at what appears to be a critical juncture in history, and assess avenues for imagining and reconfiguring Reality.

    • The Great Debate
Abstinence vs. Harm Reduction in Addiction Treatment

      Friday, April 6th 2001
      The New School
      66 W. 12th St. New York, NY

Presented by The New York State Psychological Association (NYSPA), NYSPA Division on Addictions and the master's program in Mental Health & Substance Abuse at the New School University.

There is no greater controversy in addiction treatment than the one between the abstinence-only and harm-reduction schools of thought. Differences in conception of the problem, approaches to, and goals of treatment, distinguish these schools and their advocates. The implications of this debate have crucial bearing on clinical practice, government policy, and public awareness of the needs and difficulties of substance users. The Addictions Division of NYSPA has a history of promoting education about cutting-edge issues in addiction theory and treatment. It is our hope that this conference will further that tradition, and broaden our collective perspectives on treatment.

Speakers include F. Michler Bishop, PhD, CAS; Lisa Director, Ph.D.; Scott Kellogg, Ph.D.; Bart Majoor, Drs; Suzanne Spross, PhD; and Andrew Tatarsky, PhD.

A certificate of attendance will be issued to all attendees; six CE credits for psychologists are available for an additional $10. The Foundation of the New York State Psychological Association is approved by the American Psychological Association to offer continuing education to psychologists. The Foundation of NYSPA maintains responsibility for the program.
