Memorandum of Understanding Between
MAPS, Clusterbusters, and Dr. R. Andrew
Sewell

1.
Dr. Sewell
will work on a study sponsored by the Multidisciplinary Association for
Psychedelic Studies (MAPS) and Clusterbusters to gather information about the
response of cluster headache to lysergic acid amide-containing seeds (Hawaiian
baby woodrose, morning glory, and Rivea corymbosa).
2.
The study
will be funded by MAPS.
3.
This study
will be essentially identical to another study that was initially approved by
the McLean IRB but which was terminated on December 31st, 2006, with
the exception of additional protections for subject data. The study will resume
once approval from an external IRB has been obtained. MAPS will pay the fees
required for resubmission.
4.
MAPS will
pay Dr. Sewell a salary of $1000 a month, beginning in January 2007 through and
including August 2007, to work on obtaining IRB approval for the study and then
to work on the LSA study itself.
5.
If IRB
approval as not been obtained by the end of March 2007, this Memorandum of
Understanding is no longer in force and another will need to be written.
6.
The
protocol is to be posted on the MAPS website once it is approved.
7.
Dr. Sewell
shall share any data with MAPS or the Clusterbusters within two weeks of any
request for such data, with the exception of the removal of personal
identifiers as mandated by the provisions of the Health Insurance Portability
and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
8.
Dr. Sewell
will write a paper documenting the response of cluster headache to LSA based on
data obtained in the LSA study and submit it for publication. If the LSA
study is not completed by the end of September 2007, Dr. Sewell write the paper
and
submit it for publication as soon as possible after that date without receiving
additional compensation for the study.
9.
Dr. Sewell
can publish the data he gathers in any forum he chooses, without having to
obtain prior approval from either MAPS or Clusterbusters.
10.
Dr. Sewell
will retain the right to approve news releases regarding the study.
